Effective Leadership and Strategic Vision
In 2008, academic and clinical practice leaders convened in the Los Angeles region to collaborate to solve the clinical placement issues in the region. The group was called the Los Angeles Nursing Resource Center (LANRC). One early intervention was to implement the Centralized Clinical Placement System (CCPS) to help manage matching clinical needs with opportunities available for nursing students. While HealthImpact (formerly the California Institute for Nursing and Health Care) served as the organizing organization for the LANRC, the co-leads of the consortium were chosen from both academia and clinical agencies.
Over time, the work expanded largely due to the academic and clinical practice leaders of the LA Academic-Practice Consortium (LAAPC) to explore and create initiatives to address the issues of clinical education that provided barriers and delays in clinical education to support the nursing education pipeline. Exploration of the shared challenges and opportunities became the larger focus of LAAPC. Today, the LAAPC continues to foster collaborations between academia and practice to create possibilities and solve the issues in clinical education.
