California was selected as one of five states to pilot the launch of the Campaign for the Future of Nursing and has now been joined by 16 other states. The Campaign is charged with implementing the recommendations from the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) / Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing, which was released October 2010.
The California Action Coalition (CAAC) directs the implementation of the recommendations in California. CINHC serves as one of the lead coordinating entities for this effort and is the fiscal home for the CA AC. Mary Dickow is the statewide director for the CAAC, providing the coordinating support for this important work.
All eight IOM recommendations are being addressing through work groups. CINHC is the lead sponsoring entity for Recommendation #3: Implement nurse residency programs; and Recommendation #4: Increase the proportion of nurse with baccalaureate degree to 80 percent by 2020.
