SUMMARY:Creating a Community of Inquiry in Online Learning
DESCRIPTION:The Benner Institute is offering two webinars on online teaching and learning in nursing education. These webinars offer a learning science and  learner-centric curriculum to increase and maintain student engagement. Each webinar begins with a theoretical framework and then gives suggestions for course design and delivery of the content. \nBoth webinars will be followed by two Community Dialogue Sessions in the weeks that follow. These Community Dialogue Sessions will be limited to 20 participants and will be a forum for open dialogue among the participants to learn from each other. We encourage participants to bring their triumphs and challenges to discuss during these sessions.  The sessions will be facilitated by Drs. Patricia Benner\, Garrett Chan\, and Susan McNiesh.  Each Community Dialogue Session is independent from the other session\, so you only need to sign up for one. \n  \nCREATING A COMMUNITY OF INQUIRY IN ONLINE LEARNING\n \nDATE: Wednesday\, October 21\, 2020 / TIME: 9:00 – 10:00 am Pacific Time / FEE: $40 \n\nRegister HERE for this Course and one of the Community Dialogue Sessions\n\nThe webinar on October 21 features speakers Professors Holly Fiock and Glenise McKenzie\, PhD\, RN. SUMMARY:NEW Webinar! Rethinking Skills Acquisition in The Practice Apprenticeship / August 5\, 2020
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will invite educators in academic institutions and clinical agencies to consider skills acquisition in the context of patient safety to create a sense of salience for the learner.  Strategies of creating situated context for psychomotor and non-technical skills development will be discussed. \nIn the Practice Apprenticeship\, we have chosen to focus on these two crucial areas of urgently needed transformations in nursing curricula: 1) how to create meaningful and effective clinical teaching and learning experiences to expand teaching knowing “that”\, “about” and “what” to also focus on knowing “how” and “when.”  Both require higher-order thinking and situated coaching. 2) the use of simulation to improve practice readiness in academic institutions and clinical agencies. \nTHE PRACTICE APPRENTICESHIP\n \nLearn clinical reasoning\, caring practices\, and skilled know-how. 1 CEU \nWednesday\, August 5\, 2020 \n9:00 AM to 10:00 AM (PDT) \nCOST: $40.00 (Register below – DETAILS: Website) \nSPEAKERS: \n\nLisa Day\, PhD\, RN\, CNE\, ANEF\, FAAN\nCarol F. Durham\, EdD\, RN\, ANEF\, FAAN\nPatricia Benner\, PhD\, RN\, FAAN\n\nThank you to an anonymous donor for their generous funding; the subsidized attendance fee is $40.00 per webinar.
